Thank you 2015, Hellooo 2016!

As we welcome back our Team for a massive 2016, Allied would like to say a big thank you to our clients, suppliers and friends for choosing Allied last year.

In a year that saw a very soft construction market through the first 6 months, Allied still managed to hit some big highs, here are just a few.

When we thank you for your support, this is what we mean...

In 2015,
*Allied grew the business and welcomed 130 new clients;
* 6 of our operators bought homes for their families in 2015, 2 of those being 21 y/o and 4 being under 25 y/o.
* Our Team spent over 120 hours training on and off-site to gain new skills & qualifications;
* We maintained our 11 year strong zero Lost time Injury record with all of our team returning home safely to their families.
* we worked on some of the biggest projects in SE QLD alongside the best of the best in the Construction Industry.
* We were able to sponsor the Mount Samson State School and the Samford Football Club. Allied also donated to the Childrens Hospital foundation, the B105 Christmas Appeal and a number of other charities throughout 2015.

We are committed to working with our Team to set some MASSIVE personal and professional goals for this year and we look forward to working alongside you in 2016.

This is what I like to call a PBP - Proud "Boss" Post. It's kind of like the parenting equivalent of posting a picture of your kid eating peas for the first time on Facebook, but....... it's your Team, and..... it's something awesome they did at work, and .... they're not 2 years old.

Many moons ago I put keyboard to Microsoft Word to write a Company Culture, because, that's what you do when you have a business, right? My colleagues from another mother, would have needed a good surgeon to unroll their eyeballs at the somewhat unconventional HR processes I employed to “develop” our Culture. However, what I've come to realise is that, in some respects, and by that I mean the "fluffy stuff", conventional HR is not what works at Allied. I highly doubt whether any of our Team members have actually laid eyes on the documented "Company Culture" in all its well-conceived but utterly un-rolled out glory. IMO, that's "In My Opinion" for the benefit of the boomers, (acronyms are so 2017 dyk?) there are some things in life, and in business, that just...ARE.

When we "developed” Allied's Culture, it became an amalgamation of:

  1. The vibe - the qualities of the Team members who did well with us, who were well liked by our customers and their colleagues, and who were good at their job.
  2. My observations - the qualities exhibited by our team members as they went about their daily business.
  3. The qualities highlighted by customers who went out of their way to give us feedback about their experience, otherwise known as a "testimonial". The real kind, not the 5 star bizzo you get your mum to write on Facebook.
  4. What I like to call, the "culture bucket list", because, people and businesses aren't perfect, and you’ve got to aspire!

So, to the original purpose for writing this post ("post" ~ definition; transitive verb: download of stuff that's been on your mind). We've had some issues to work through at Allied lately that we probably don't talk about enough (refer unconventional approach to HR), but through it all, I’ve noticed that our Team continue to exhibit this particular quality no matter what. And coincidentally, it just happens to be our 1st point of culture...

" HARD WORK & COMMITMENT

Our team works bloody hard! Sometimes what we do isn’t glamorous, or “saving the world worthy”. We sometimes work unsociable hours* (*and away from our families) in the bottom of a pit, up a drain, in the dust, dirt and mud, in the rain or the blistering sun, but without exception, we get in and we deliver! We do it without protest or complaint, because we are committed and we believe in hard work, service and duty. What it stands for, what it says about who we are, what it can deliver in our lives and what it means to the rest of our Team and our clients.

Commitment starts with a choice and is sustained by dedication and perseverance. We are committed and we work hard, we recognise hard work and we acknowledge it."

So with that being said…. To our Team, thank you for your commitment and thank you for always working so bloody hard! To everyone else, we just wanted you to know how bloody hard they work!
